Traffic Lights

Dear Mike

Why is council against the implementation of traffic lights? Most of the arguements againts traffic lights by the local community that I have read about in the local media indicate that most residents who are against them do not understand what they are intended for. There are a number of busy and dangerous intersections in the city that require traffic lights - examples including Blume Ave/Banner Ave, Banner Ave/Crossing St, Banner Ave/Jondaryan Ave and the Yoogali intersection. The pedestrian crossing for Griffith Central should have been controlled by traffic lights. Traffic lights save lives and also help control local traffic flow. Our roundabouts at these intersections seem to be at full capacity and infact during peak times at overcapacity. Local drivers enter roundabouts when traffic is not flowing, causing delays. Traffic lights in such circumstances would infact allow better traffic flow.

I think it is time for Griffith to realise that it is a city and that its roads are getting busier. Traffic lights are the way to go to assist in traffic management around our very busy road intersections.

Once installed and once people see how they work, resistance to traffic lights will ease.

Traffic lights are in operation in towns half the size of Griffith and are working effectively. The RTA has wanted to install traffic lights in Griffith for almost 30 years. I think it is time to leave it to the experts and accept that Griffith is growing and needs to implement them.

As a resident, I am more concerned about local safety and not just convenience. If I am delayed 2 minutes due to a red light; but have assurance of approaching a busy intersection safely (ie controlled with traffic lights), I think the two minutes wait would be worth it.

Thank you for considering my point above. I would like to understand council’s review of traffic lights and Griffith’s overall road safety management. When reading the minutes from the traffic commitee under the previous mayor, it was clear the committee was 100% against traffic lights, even when they were recommended (Griffith Central pedestrian access was a good example of this). I am hoping that the ‘personal desires’ of the traffic committee are excluded from the decision making process when considering road safety and that advice from the experts is followed and implemented for the benefit and safety of the community as a whole.

I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this matter.

Many thanks
Nathan

Hi Mike
I think council should try some sort of vouccher porgram for the Tip , Maybe one or two vouccher a year with the cost added to the rates as a surcharge ,So people know that they have payed for it already they mite as well use the vouccher and not just dump it some were.

G,day Mike,

I have been a resident of Griffith for all my life and it would seem to me that this city, although designed by WB Griffin, has only one street designated as a circle. That is in North Griffith.

I propose that both Benerembah Street and Kookora Street both be renamed as Benerembah Circle and Kookora Circle. These are the only other two streets in Griffith that actually form a circle.

It should be of no great moment to residents, as street numbers would remain the same.

Furthermore, council may consider adopting the term Civic Circle for Benerembah Street. Currently, the name Benerembah does not particularly relate to our civic centre.

Mike, I think that it is time to reassess our city traffic management system which is sadly lacking direction.

I hope to have more to say on this in the near future.

Kind Regards
Mac
Griffith

Dear Mr Neville

Next term as a stage (years 5,6) we are studying making informed decisions. As a part of this process we are studying the government and its structure. To help make learning as interesting and hands-on as possible, we were wondering if we could have a visit from either you or a representative from the council to talk about your job and have a question and answer time. This could either be on school grounds or at the council chambers, the students would love that. We would expect that we would need no more than 30 minutes of your time. If there is a day that works for you during TERM 3, 2009 of our school semester could you please notify me or our school about the possibility for a visit. We would deeply appreciate it if we could show your support towards our efforts to integrate people in places of responsibility in our society to educate our children.

I look forward to hearing your response to this matter.

Thank you,
Glen Theobald

Dear Mr Mayor;
Last year or early this year a car movement counter was placed between Malinson Street and the water tank on Remberance Drive.
Will you please advise me of the percentage of these movement that came from, McNabb Cresent, Malinson Street, Boona Street and Noorilla Street.

Thank You.

dear sir
how much did bridge road cost how much is it going to cost to repair and when is that likely to happen thank you. regards lanne.

dear sir
it seems my first question did not get through so here it is again, now that the commonwealth has fast tracked money for roads and footpaths will this money be used for its intended purpose or as in the past been transfered to other projects as is the case of the aquatic centre regards lanne.
